The re-enactment of everyday aesthetics from the aesthetic threshold: leaflets of all types of supermarkets are the protagonists of the newest photographs of Ingo Mittelstaedt in which the artist continues his Chromas series from 2011. In front of a structured canvas – staged in a radical manner in a classic studio environment – bright advertisements of inexpensive meats and sausages are ruptured by fireworks and washing-machines through subtle gestures and artistic interventions. In front of the obliquely draped sides filigree structures — made mainly of organic material — unbend and, hardly noticeable, mark the room creating a network of formal and contentual correspondence. Thus, the large-sized photographs are characterized by an artistic play of picture-in-picture references, moments of vanitas and linguistic set pieces that, rather than having an anti-consumption attitude, make the transformative potential of photography fruitful for a media-aesthetic contemplation.
No less radical do the small black and white pictures appear on the scene, their formal reduction concentrating the language of the leaflets and exposing them as platitudes. Hands protruding into the picture function as gestures of presentation and as a link between the picture and the observer. They emphasize the timeliness of the photographic moment and casually serve as an astute framing of what is ignored of daily absurdity.
Ingo Mittelstaedt (born 1978 in Berlin) studied at HBK Braunschweig. His works have been exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitions. Mittelstaedt, has been awarded the well known bi-annual art prize of the Kunstverein Hannover. He is currently living and working at Villa Minimo, Hannover. At abc — art berlin contemporary, 2014, his works will be featured in a solo presentation by Galerie koal. In 2015, Mittelstaedt will participate as a international fellow in the ISCP program in New York. In spring 2016, he will have a solo exhibition at Kunstverein Hannover.

Die Re-Inszenierung alltäglicher Ästhetik aus dem Grenzbereich des Ästhetischen: Werbeprospekte beliebiger Supermärkte sind die Hauptakteure der jüngsten Fotografien Ingo Mittelstaedts, in der der Künstler an seine 2011 entstandene Serie Chromas anknüpft. Vor strukturierter Leinwand in klassischer Studiosituation radikal in Szene gesetzt, werden grelle Ankündigungen preiswerter Fleisch- und Wurstwaren, Feuerwerkskörper und Waschmaschinen durch feine Gesten und künstlerische Interventionen gebrochen. Vor den schräg drapierten Seiten entspannen sich filigrane Strukturen aus vorrangig organischem Material, das kaum wahrnehmbar Raum markiert und ein Netz an formalen wie inhaltlichen Korrespondenzen schafft. So sind die großformatigen Aufnahmen von einem künstlerischen Spiel mit Bild-im-Bild-Bezügen, Vanitas-Momenten und sprachlichen Versatzstücken geprägt, das weniger einem konsumkritischem Impuls folgt als vielmehr das transformative Potential der Fotografie für eine medienästhetische Reflexion öffnet.
Nicht weniger radikal treten die kleinformatigen Schwarz-Weiß-Fotografien auf, deren formale Reduktion die Sprache der Werbeprospekte konzentriert und als Phrasen entlarvt. Ins Bild ragende Hände fungieren dabei als Präsentationsgestus und Bindeglied zwischen Bild und Betrachter. Sie akzentuieren die Zeitlichkeit des fotografischen Moments und dienen wie beiläufig als scharfsinnige Rahmung des Übersehenen alltäglicher Absurdität.
Ingo Mittelstaedt (1978 geboren in Berlin) studierte an der HBK Braunschweig. Seine Arbeiten wurden in zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Ausstellungen gezeigt. Zur Zeit lebt und arbeitet Mittelstaedt als Preisträger des Kunstvereins Hannover in der Villa Minimo, Hannover. Auf der abc — art berlin contemporary 2014 hat Mittelstaedt eine Solo Präsentation bei der Galerie koal. Ab 2015 wird Mittelstaedt als Stipendiat für ein Jahr am ISCP Programm in New York teilnehmen. Im Frühjahr 2016 werden seine Werke in einer Einzelausstellung im Kunstverein Hannover zu sehen sein.
